Tips from the Tipster (Part 1)

Following on from our recent success with the tipster, we’ve decided to show/help you understand other forms of betting which may help you succeed…
In recent weeks I’ve found success in spread betting on different sports. Basically, spread betting is a way of betting which encourages betting on matches where the odds are heavily stacked in one sides favour. For example, if Manchester United are playing Portsmouth, like this weekend, United are going to be strong odds-on favourites. The chances of them winning would be very high, therefore the return would be minimal, and thus a higher stake would have to be placed to make a decent return.
However, spread betting introduces a handicap, with the aim of this being to increase the odds for the favourite by evening out the odds to closer to a 50/50 chance. In this example, a 1.5 goal handicap would be added to Portsmouth’s score at the end of the match, almost as if the score started Portsmouth 1.5 Manchester United 0. The odds on Manchester United winning by 1.5 goals or more would be much longer than if you were to bet on just a Man Utd victory. Obviously, this excludes the outcome of the match being a draw, therefore reducing the number of possible outcomes to 2, and making it easier to give the punter a 50% chance of making a return. E.g. if United were to win 1-0, then the bet on Portsmouth (+1.5) would come off, even though they lost the game.
In football, this type of betting is called an asian handicap. Because of the low scoring nature of football, however, spread betting is better suited to other sports, e.g. Rugby, or in America, the NFL, in which it’s called NFL point spread betting. I would strongly recommend betting on the NFL, as I have won a fair bit of money on this lately. I tend to use American websites to get your up-to-date sports news, so I can make an informed gamble.
The most important things to remember are always do your research and NEVER bet more than you can afford to lose.
In part two, we will look in detail at other different types of betting.
