Top 10 of the week – Premiership thrashings.

In light of yesterday’s proceedings, yeah, you guessed it, the 9-1 drubbing of Wigan I thought I would look at 10 of the best one sided goal fests that have graced the Premiership.
10. Chelsea 6 Man City 0
Not really that special, but if you watch the video you will see that 5 of the goals go straight through the legs of the keeper. MEGS.
P.S – Put it on mute, you will see why.
9. Derby 0-6 Aston Villa
There have been quite a few 6-0 drubbings in premiership history, but this stands out because it turned Derby’s season from tragic to absolutely humiliating.
Scorers included Ashley Young, John Carew, Stiliyan Petrov (expertly from 45 yards), Gareth Barry, Gabriel Agbonlahor and Marlon Harewood (yeah, even Marlon Harewood scored)
8. Australia 31 American Samoa 0
Ok, I may be cheating a bit by putting an international match in but this was a rout worth mentioning. Their Back-up striker Archie Thompson scored 13 times while the other reserve David Zdrilic hit eight goals.
7. Blackburn 7 -0 Nottingham Forest 0
The amazing thing about this result is that Nottingham Forest where unbeaten in 25 games in the 1994/95 season. They won 15 games and drew 10 before they took a good old fashioned beat down by Rovers at the start of the new season. Shearer bagged himself a hattrick while Bohinen x2, Newell and Le Saux chipped in.
6. Arsenal 7 Middlesbrough 0 – January 2006
Arsenal like their 7-0’s as you will later find out. Thierry Henry was on hand in this game to complete a hattrick while Philippe Senderos, Robert Pires, Gilberto Silva and Alexander Hleb also pitched in.
5. Arsenal 7 Everton 0 – May 2005
Everton fans may well have had flashbacks of this day when they where beat by the same score this year. Luckily for Everton they still secured a deserved fourth place, at the expense of bitter rival Liverpool. In this match an inspired Dennis Bergkamp scored one and assisted three others as Everton were brushed aside by the runners-up. Other Scorers included: Robert Pires (2), Robin van Persie, Patrick Vieira, Mathieu Flamini and Edu
3. Nottingham Forest 1 Manchester United 8 – February 1999
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer came off the bench and was almost close to membership of the 5 goal club as he bagged 4. Andy Cole and Dwight Yorke each got two goals, with Alan Rogers briefly levelling for Forest.
3. Tottenham 9 Wigan 1
At least you’re getting your money back! It was a day five goal man Defoe won’t forget. Other scorers included Crouch, Lennon, Kirkland (og) and Krancjcar.
2. Newcastle 8 Sheffield Wednesday 0 – September 1999
Completing the illustrious list of 5-goals-in-a-game players; Alan Shearer bagged five goals against a Wednesday side relegation bound. (Is this a bad omen for Wigan perhaps?) Other scorers included Aaron Hughes, Kieron Dyer and Gary Speed.
Manchester United 9 Ipswich 0 – March 1995
Like Defoe and Shearer, Andy Cole bagged himself 5 goals in one match, with Mark Hughes (2), Paul Ince and Roy Keane also netting. With 9-0 goals without return this has to be the winner.

i went to the Derby Villa game because I was seeing a mate in Derby. She suggested going to the game. One of the funniest moments of my life. Derby were horrendous, the fans went barmy and I was directly behind Petrov’s screamer. Great day out
