Pottinger tackles… West Ham Billboards
Okay, okay, they got away lightly on Sunday with Arsenal once again showing less bottle than an English penalty taker, but something at Upton Park concerned me.

Now I may be wrong (And correct me if I am) but I’m pretty sure, as Arsenal were 2-0 up, that odds on the match were scrolling along the billboards on the pitch. Obviously these were less than favourable for West Ham, and what strikes me is that literally seeing the odds stacked against you can’t be good for team morale during a game. Sure, fans can have a similar effect, but what you see in these odds are the opinions of impartial professionals, who make a living out of knowing how matches will end, telling your players that you stand a cat in hells chance.
Could the influence of advertising be messing up players heads? I seem to remember a ‘keeper once saying that moving billboards distracted him. If this is the case what should be done to stop it?
More importantly, who can think of the best advertising/club match made in heaven?
