Liverpool lose with help from a beach ball…

My day could not be made any better, following Chelsea’s loss to Villa and Manchester United eventually getting past Bolton, Liverpool suffer their fourth defeat from nine matches will send me to sleep happy. The manner of how Liverpool conceded the goal just makes it that bit sweeter…

The beach ball the football hit was thrown on by a Liverpool fan just seconds before the goal. Darren Bent made the point that if it was that much of an issue, the Liverpool players would have removed it from the area before the attack.

In actual fact their should have been a drop ball outside the area as a result of the ball hitting a foreign agent, however the referee appeared to not think that it came off the beach ball. Steve Bruce did make the point that anyone who knew that rule is a bit of a square, but rules are rules Steve.

This whole episode adds further weight to the need for video referees in the game. But for the time being I don’t mind Liverpool losing in this fashion…
