La La La Liga 28/09/09

Hotter than Enrique Igelsias, It’s Spanish football…

The big two just keep on winning as Villereal, Atletico Madrid and Valencia all drop points. Too early to tell but the traditional two Spanish-horse race is taking shape.

Deportivo La Coruna 1 – 0 Villarreal
Zaragoza 3 – 0 Getafe C.F
RCD Mallorca 3 – 0 Valladolid
Espanyol 0 – 0 Xerez CD
U.D Almeria 2 – 2 Racing Santander
Osasuna 1 – 0 Sporting de Gijón
Valencia 2 – 2 Atletico Madrid
Málaga 0 – 2 Barcelona
Athletic Bilbao 0 – 4 Sevilla
Real Madrid 3 – 0 Tenerife

Deportivo La Coruna 1 – 0 Villarreal
Villareal are still without a win this season and were beaten by a strong looking Deportivo side (The first in a while). With players like Senna and Rossi they will be looking for the Champions League again, but this is a poor start, especially after handing out pre-season beatings that would make Chris Brown wince.

Málaga 0 – 2 Barcelona
This game looked more like Aussie Rules than actual football. Played on a pitch bumpier than the history of the Middle East, I thought Barca were going to struggle. Malaga came out with the intent to hurt Barcelona and a couple of stamps on Messi’s ankles and a truly disgusting deliberate testicles stamp on him set the tone. Pique was later yellow carded after being punched in the head then strangely Malaga’s young Luque was sent straight off for his first, and very tame, challenge. Pique and Ibrahimovic scored (5 in 5 games, a new Barcelona debut record) in an otherwise poor attacking performance. Defensively they looked sharp in a game that two seasons ago they may not have won.

Real Madrid 3 – 0 Tenerife
Crippling debt has never done anyone any harm, and after watching each of the big money superstars shine over the past month, I’m tempted to buy that bread maker I’ve had my eye on. Kaka and Benzema dazzled in this game, scoring one and two respectively. A really strong performance and the best defensive record in La Liga. I’ll keep saying it though, they haven’t played a good team yet, and their poor retention of possesion will come back to bite them in the arse.
