La La La Liga 21/09/09

The rain in Spain falls mainly on the plains, but the goals are all coming from Barca. It’s Spanish football…

Valencia 2 – 2 Sporting de Gijón

Real Madrid 5 – 0 Xerez CD

U.D Almeria 1 – 0 Getafe C.F

Athletic Bilbao 3 – 2 Villarreal

Zaragoza 1 – 2 Valladolid

Barcelona 5 – 2 Atletico Madrid

Málaga 1 – 2 Racing Santander

Osasuna 0 – 2 Sevilla

Deportivo La Coruna 2 – 3 Espanyol

RCD Mallorca 4 – 0 Tenerife

Valencia 2 – 2 Sporting de Gijón

A shock equaliser from Gijon in the last few minutes destroyed what I thought was a pretty sure win for Valencia at home. Villa netted both Valencia goals and has since publicly criticised management’s tactics for failing to beat ten men. I was really hoping for a title push from them this year. Too early to be damning I’m sure, but results like these are the ones they will look back on in their campaign to get back in the Champions league. To combat the problem of good teams drawing Valencia are trying to introduce Manchester United’s “play until we score” injury time policy, will it work?

Real Madrid 5 – 0 Xerez CD

Young, upcoming star Ronaldo (You may not have heard of him) looked like the multi million pound signing he is in this game. I say it through gritted teeth but Ronaldo looked a class act as Real destroyed Xerez. It should be noted however that Xerez are newly promoted, so it’s like Man Utd versus Burnley, which would surely be a walkover? Benzema took he pick of the goals and the defence was tighter than a Nun over lent.  A very strong looking Madrid side, bring on some real competition.

Barcelona 5 – 2 Atletico Madrid

The other Madrid team however took a beating worse than Rihanna at the hands of a confident Barcelona side. If Real are talking about Ronaldo, Ibrahimovic is the only conversation starter in the Catalan capital. A goal after two minutes and a beautiful assist for Keita’s goal with Messi, they looked the real deal everywhere but defence. New signing at the back Chrygrynskiy , bought clearly for his ariel presence, looks slower than Gazza in spelling test, but I’m confident he will fit in evetually. Conceeding two goals was poor (And their first of the season) but they were against like likes of Aguero and Forlan so some slack should be cut. The man of the moment Leo Messi (with his new contract and 250 million Euro buy-out clause) showed exactly why he is the world’s greatest footballer. The fifth goal in paticular made me need to change my boxers.

  • Ben:

Messi was sick in that game. Dicked the keeper a treat for his first.
Love the picture of Villa and Fabregas lol

  • Ash:

just like to make the point that Real Madrid are top of the pile. Going to stop this Barca rubbish and win back their title…
