Rio Ferdinand off to Spain?..

The Sun today is reporting that Manchester United centre back Rio Ferdinand will be following Cristiano Ronaldo over to Spain in the next transfer window. I know what you are thinking its The Sun, but it has yet to be wrong this summer and there is no smoke without fire…

They are reporting that both Real and Barca are interested in the star defender as Ferdinand looks to increase his business career. Rio has his new online magazine #5 (which is very good), he has recently launched a lifestyle management company and his charity the Rio Ferdinand Live The Dream foundation was launched last year.

One of The Sun’s trusty sources (I know, I know) has said: “Rio can see the sense of it. Not only would it be a fresh challenge as he nears the end of his career, it would also fit all his projects off the pitch. Rio has big business plans, which are already taking shape, and would really take off if he moved to one of the big Spanish clubs.”

To be completely honest with you this wouldn’t surprise me. Sir Alex will only let a player leave if he feels that it is his last chance to cash in on a player or if the team can manage without him. With the emergence of Johnny Evans who is in the same mould of Rio and more than capable a replacement it seems that now might be the best time to cash in on the injury prone Ferdinand.

Hopefully this won’t be the case as Ferdinand is a big player for United but I can see this one happening…

  • Shaw:

Johny Evans is not in the mould of Rio.

  • Ash:

    how is he not

  • Ben:

i just dont understand why they want him. What good is a 30 year old? Barca have now got five decent centre backs and R.Madrid have got the money to buy any centre back in the world of any age so they can buy someone younger.

  • Ash:

i can see real buying him. centre backs last til there like 35 and rio is actually quality. Only issue is he breaks down all the time these days which is why as a man utd fan i can understand if fergie wants to sell
