Zhirkov signs for Chelsea.

Russia international Zhirkov has signed for Chelsea from CSKA for a reported 18m today.
He has been a much desired player for Chelsea this year but what does this purchase mean for Ancelotti’s side?
Firstly Zhirkov tends to play a less attacking role on the left of midfield so it will be interesting to see whether Ancelotti will employ his talent as a left striker in Chelsea’s familiar 4-3-3 formation or revert to a classic 4-4-2 . This would mean giving Drogba and Anelka another chance to prove their effectiveness up front together.
Secondly alarm bells will be ringing for ‘Cashley’ Cole who he has already rejected a new contract at Chelsea. Zhikhov can easily play left back (as we know from Euro 2008) which may indicate that Cole is on his way out of Stamford Bridge, surely Zhirhov is not another Wayne Bridge.
Finally having already purchased Daniel Sturridge and Ross Turnbull, to add depth to their squad, has Ancelotti bowed out of the big money purchases or is his simply filling out his squad to deal with an up coming clear out?

18 mill is a fair old whack like you say Alex but in perspective Man City just shelled out 17.5 on Roque Santa Cruz, Man United signed two serbian youngsters in tosic and ljajic last year at a combined cost of 17 mill. At the moment players have ridiculously inflated values, and perhaps big money that Shaw is referring to is knocking around the 30 mill region?
