RCD Espanyol captain Daniel Jarque has died at the age of 26.

Daniel Jarque who was given the captain’s arm band at Espanyol last month after playing for the club his whole professional career passed away this evening after his heart stopped following a training session. Doctors tried to resuscitate him but without success.

Espanyol have cancelled their next pre-season game and will now return to Barcelona where mourners will surely flock to their new stadium to offer their heart-felt thanks for the commitment and loyalty Jarque showed to the club.

Arch rivals Barcelona have also offered their condolences to both Espanyol and Jarque’s family admitting that it was a great loss for both Espanyol and spanish football.
