Liverpool – ‘not good enough’
Last night Rafa’s men crashed to a humiliating 3-0 defeat at Espanyol, with former Chelsea front man Ben Sahar hitting two goals past Reina in the second half.
The reds fielded a strong team to take on the mid-table Spanish outfit, including the likes of Steven Gerrard, Fernando Torres and new signing Glen Johnson. However, this was not sufficient as the reds conceded to defeat.
On the Liverpool website Benitéz lamented his disappointment. He felt his team ‘did not do enough to win the game’ – and by the looks of the scoreline it seems that there may be a lot to do before the season starts.
Moreover, while Alonso took part in the match, Liverpool’s managing director (Christian Purslow) met with Real Madrid representative Angel Sanchez in Barcelona to finalize his switch to the Galacticos. It is believed that the two clubs are at a stand-still over the price for the player.
On another note, Roma’s Alberto Aquilani move to Liverpool is closer to being finalised.
